What is a redemption fee and when is it charged?

A redemption fee is a fee charged by the top level Registry to renew a domain name that has been allowed to expire. The grace period given will vary by Registry, but a brief breakdown is given below.

Current maximum redemption fee: EUR250 (different Registrars have different fee's, so this is the maximum we are currently charged)

For com/net/org domains - Charged once the domain enters the Redemption Period (usually 30 days past expiry date)
For eu domains - Charged once the domain has expired
For ie domains - No redemption fee charged

Redemption fee's are charged in addition to the normal registration fee. We have no control over these fee's and do not profit from them. Redemption fee's and are non negotiable and the only way to avoid them, is to renew your domain in time.
